Please read for and tell me if I have gotten this right. I am very worried about my little boy being away from me. It is a peanut free preschool and I will provide snacks and lunch for the 2 days a week he goes. I would appreciate any input. Thanks!

son's Food Allergy Plan
Severe Allergy to: PEANUT/avoiding tree nuts

my son sometimes gets redness around his mouth from irritation from food. He also has dry skin bumps called Keratosis Pillarus on his cheeks. Which are of no concern.

If you notice that he is getting a few hives on his face, please wash his face off and watch to make sure they do not get worse and you can call me and I will get there to look or take him home. We call them mystery hives.

If you notice several hives all over his face please give benadryl and call me so I can come there and get him and please watch for the worse reaction.

If he gets hives that start traveling or spreading to his body, facial swelling, hoarseness, hacking cough, shortness of breath, wheezing etc

I will read for content but just wanted to tell you really quick to go in & edit out your last name & doc's name as well as any other "identifiers" -- you don't want that on a public board.

PS -- The final "form" of our emergency "cards" for our children is as follows:
>Printed in black & white,
>on white cardstock,
>framed in red,
>laminated,
>on a ring (hole in upper corner) that
>attaches to the med bags.

Additional copies are in teacher(s) emergency planners on desk tops &/or readily accessible.

One teacher (on Friday) just offered a second "card" that will be underneath the Emer Proc card -- it is smaller, white, and states wording as to what to say in the 911 call. I don't have a copy handy right now, but will try to get it & post it here too.

I switched to your format and it does look clearer. One of his teachers has seen anaphylaxis and administered epi at another school. So she said she feels comfortable on what to look out for. I am really nervous. Josh gets red irritation patchs all the time and sometimes his keritosis pillaris is very noticable. I will discuss with the school tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

COMPLETELY understand!

One thing our school does for us (their idea) is that if they call us while kids are at school, unless it is an emergency or possible reaction, the FIRST thing the caller says is, "Everything's OK, and this is Mrs. ABC from ". But my heart IS in my throat ANY time the caller ID shows it's the school or a local cell number calling me while kids are at school.

Hope tomorrow goes well.

HIGHLY suggest that if anyone uses the FAAN action plan, you MUST do a manual cut-and-paste as to the second page and REMOVE the type of injector that you do NOT have! There should be no need for the person administering epinephrine to waste even seconds trying to be certain as to which set of directions should be followed . . . Using the airplane analogy, my husband's emergency procedures for a Boeing-767 are NOT going to have two choices of aircraft pictured and include instructions for the AirBus A320 emergency.

Don't have time this morning to discuss the first page of their form, but we found it far less user-intuitive and too "busy" visually, among other reasons. We think FAAN can do better. JMHO.

Feel free to copy and modify for own use. That certainly goes for anybody!

I had been planning to post this over in Schools, but just had not worked on it (wanted to improve appearance on boards, if possible, due to format limitations here).

Our plan has a current picture of our son. The school nurse is potentially dealing with hundreds of kids so we wanted to make sure she remembered which one had the allergy!

We handed this out to teachers, lunch room attendants and bus drivers as well as the nurse.

I used the one on www.foodallergy.org and it is great. It has to be signed by your allergist and is very detailed an easy to follow.
