My pa kindergartener just left on a field trip. I was supposed to go, but my other son is sick at home with fever and dh is out of town on business. I never thought I'd ever let him go on a trip without me.
Several of my friends have gone on the trip, one of whom also has a pa son. My neighbor drove my son (she also has a child in kinder.) and another friend, who is a doctor, is also chaperoning.
They've gone to a pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins, feed the animals, have a hayride and story and then lunch. Some children did bring pb, but the teachers have separated those bags from the others. There are about 50 children, 4 teachers, and maybe 8 moms.
I think I've covered all the bases...sent 3 epi's, Benadryl, wipes, he won't be feeding or even petting the animals. Did I forget about anything, do you think? I'm a wreck!
Why do I feel like a caged animal??

Hi Dawn:
Just wanted to give a little support here ... my son w/pa is in 1st grade. It is so hard to let them go on their own, but it sounds like the adults on the trip are very aware (thanks to you, I am sure) and everything will be fine! Once he gets through this you will feel more confident the next time you need to do something similar.
take care,
Kelly
I agree with Kelly. It's very hard the first time but after that it gets easier. (Assuming all goes well, of course.)
Let us know how it went!

My *preschooler* went to the fire house without me today om her school field trip. There was also one trip I did not make last year. This one was ok though. Very close to home, a PA mom going, a vigilant neighbor mom went, teacher rides with her in the car with the epipens.
Still, I feel she is so young to go without me. I feel it is young for so many field trips in general, for moms with siblings at home and unable to go all the time, PA aside. becca I had a long OB appt, BTW, which is why I could not go.
My son is safely tucked in his bed after a busy and fun day for him. Phew!
It was hard to keep my mind on other things, so when his teacher called me to let me know that they were on their way back to school and everything went smoothly, I was very relieved. When I picked him up, the teachers (and later the moms) all told me how proud they were of him because he was very careful and when the others were petting the animals, he kept his hands in his pockets.
Thank you all for responding and helping me get through today!

Great! I thought of you later when I went back to my son's school and saw some of the preschoolers walking in with pumpkins. They must have gone to a farm too.
Glad everything turned out well!

Hi Dawn,
I have a 5 year old Kindergartener with a PA so I totally hear you! I also have a younger one 18 mo. and I am trying to get to most of the field trips too but you never know. I'll have to miss it too if my little one is sick and can't go to daycare.
It sounds like you really covered your bases well and luckily there is a Mom looking out for her PA child there. I'm sure she'll automatically look out for yours. I know that I would. They'll probably eat lunch together. They've got the Benadryl and Epipens and it sounds like you really did cover all the bases having them keep away from the animal feed, etc.
I'm sure at the end of the day when she comes home, you'll feel much better. Good luck. Let me know how it goes!
