I received a letter from our school district this past week in regards to our school being able to apply for federal money to provide health related services.
here is the letter:
Dear Parents,
(Our school District) is able to access Federal Medical Assistance Access monies for providing health related services such as Speech and Language Support, Hearing, Vision, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Personal Care Aides and Psychological and Nursing Services for Medical Assistance eligible students who have these services recommended in their Individual Education Plans (IEP's).
These federal monies go into a special account at the Department of Education, which allows the district to purchase materials, supplies and services for our students with IEP's. THis does not in any way affect the medical assistance and/or insuarnce for these identified children and their families.
On tje enclosed permission form we are asking for your consent for the district to submit these claims for providing services. We are also asking for your child;s medical assistance number and social security number. If your child does not have a medical assistance number please indicate in the space provided.
Maybe this may help someone here at pa.com in the USA, especially if you are a low income family and your children have the access card.
best wishes,
Renee
Synthia,
In my 504 with the school, I requested an aide to be with my son. Because he was a level 5 according to their qualifications I was able to have an aide for my ds.
My son will be going into the 3rd grade this coming fall. SO hard to believe that already. I have tried for the last year to not have the aid with them.
They have made the lunch room safe for him where he sits.
This was a letter that was sent to my by our school district.
I really don't feel that my son needs to have an aide with him now, and now I cannot get the school to let me alone.
I would ask your school to look into the federal funding program to find the funds to be able to allow your daughter the aide that you request.
Good luck to you and please let me know how things go for you.
best wishes,
Renee

noting. Don't know myself if they have a right to do that. Don't know. Anyone? I mean, I've also wondered, hypothetically, if a district, for instance would have the right, if certain conditions existed, to insist on a homebound option?

Would these funds be specifically and only for an aide and for services only for the child in question, or would it be part of a package deal?
If the funds exist, I mean. Not quite sure where the funds come from for the program my youngest cub (crossing fingers) is to attend this fall --- "At Risk" ---, but was told the availability of funds for the program has not been determined. They are waiting on some vote in the legislature (not sure if it's state or federal), I *believe*. I could be wrong. Not even sure where the funds come from. I'll make it a point to find out. I probably should know, but don't.

How do I go about this.
I think Little V should have a aid for the kindergarten school year.
The school claims they do not have the money,
but another aid that is already in the school will ck on Little V while she is in the lunch room.
My e-mail is in my profile if you need it
TIA
