Yes Thomas we have been lucky enough to get good dates before too. Somtimes we have even called different pharmacies and ask for their exp. date to get the best one.

I, too, check the expiration date while I'm at the pharmacy and expect to receive epi-pens with at least one year before expiring. I think you are right to return them and ask for new ones if they don't have at least a year. I think the "longest" one we had was around 14 months.

The longest expiry date I have had has been somewhere in the region of 14-16 months. It is very difficult to get a longer date than that : they are not the highest-selling product and because of their cost, our local Pharmacies do not have a large stock ready to hand. If you have time on your hande and give them a couple of weeks warning, they will normally check with their suppliers / other branches (if appllicable) and try to get the longest date possible - if you ask nicely ! Hi there
The last epipen we picked up for my son in Oct/o1 has an expiry date of August 03! That's almost 2 years. I remember commenting to the pharmasist that usually we had to replaced expired ones after about 1 year.
The flimsy tube it came in has has been destroyed - I'm ordering a new "protectube" form Medic Alert today.
I like the idea of getting the pharmacy to check their suppliers, other branches. Great advice.

I bought two in June of 2001, and they don't expire until February 2003. I never thought to phone around to ask about expiry dates. I just assumed they were usually the same length of time. Good to know.

My ex's pharmacist wrote on the label to discard any Epi Pens after one year after the purchase. I thought that was rather strange.

I picked up 2 new EpiPens for my son last month and they expire in August '03.

FYI-the *EpiPen 2-PAK* comes with a free trainer in the box.

FAAN has said that a "reasonable" exp date to expect is one year. If your drug store gives you less than that I would take it back and have them order a new one.

Thomas, well I can see why you would be upset! I have read here about other members that do call the different pharmacies before purchasing their Epi-pens. In the previous town I lived in there was only one pharmacy so I didn't have that opportunity. I was getting Epi-pens with an expiry date a year away, which was fine. I was VERY surprised last year when I picked two or three up to find that the expiry date was 18 months away, which is excellent!

Now that I'm in a different town, I'll have to check and maybe even call around as others do to find the *best* expiry date.

But no, I've gotten ones with an 18 month away expiry so I don't think you're encountering anything unusual. Also, as Nick mentioned above, it's not like they're big sellers, so on the other hand you can also see why you could be given ones with such a close expiry date (although I'd still be upset about it - they're costly and necessary!).

Hope this helps.

Best wishes!
