My two year old son was recently diagnosed with a peanut allergy. By a skin test.We have taken all the precations including carrying the Epi-pen Jr.We have even made an
appt. with Dr Sampson at Mount Sinai.Know anyone to have an appt. with him? how did it go? Do you think he will be more helpfull than a just a regular allergist?

Mount Sanai has an impecable reputation...I am sure you will get very good care. We had to take our oldest son out to Denver to a specialty hospital that deals with alergies and asthma. Due to their superb doctoring, not only did we find out he had muscle weakness from his steroid usage, we also found outhe had a tumor in his sinuses. Thank God everything came back benign. We also found out he has right bronchial malasia (sp), which was contributing to his asthma and effects of allergens getting stuck in his lungs. We also go to the chiropractor and although his asthma and allergies are not cured by any means, my son as well as my other kids have never been so healthy in their life. We started going to the chiropractor the day before we left for Denver..it was a last ditch effort suggested to us by my son's baseball coach's wife (a chiropractor). Before that day, I didn't even know a chiro was a real doctor. I was at the point where I was desparate and we are pleased with how much it does help with any illness etc.

Kristine just took her son Eli to him and I think she has just posted what it was like with him under the FAN conference notes. If not email her and I am sure she will help you. Her son is not PA but has severe milk and egg allergies.

I just got back last week from an appointment with Dr. Sampson. We live in Texas, so it was quite a trip for us.

The appointment went very well. He was much more approachable than I expected. There was no arrogance at all to him.

He repeated the skin test and did a blood test on my son. The main thing that they seemed to ask about were Eli's past reactions and seeing if they were consistently linked to milk/eggs. They asked a lot about his first reactions and baby formulas.

He reviewed things like the Epi-Pen, Eli chance of asthma, and his eczema with me.

When the appointment was over a dietician came in and went over Eli's diet as well as gave us a list of safe foods.

I think you will be glad that you went.
