Obviously penaut free and tree nut free also. Dd`s birthday is coming up and she wants brownies. We were using the Duncan Hines mix until I saw on this board that it is on shared equipment with tree nuts or peanuts and not stated. We can`t use Betty Crocker because of milk allergy. I don`t think there are any brownie mixes that are milk free and nut free and not shared equipment or does anyone know of any? What about a good recipe?

The Hersheys Baking Chocolate (the unsweetened stuff that comes in squares) has a recipe right on the package. Just use a safe margarine. They are very rich!

I always use the brownie recipe that is on the back of Hershey's powdered chocolate. Everyone loves them. I use Earth Balance buttery sticks in place of butter. Turns out great every time!

Are you talking about the Hershey`s cocoa powder?

Yes. Check the cans. I don't think they put the recipe on every one of them. If you can't find it, let me know and I'd be happy to give you the recipe.

There's a milk-free and egg-free recipe that isn't bad in "Bakin' without Eggs". The author is Rosemarie Emro.

I tried the recipe on the Hershey`s baking chocolate and it came out pretty good. Will try one of the others next time. Thanks, Everyone!

I have a vegan recipe that just subs oil for butter, and has no eggs. But since you can use eggs, just try any regular recipe(they are generally pretty standard for a basic brownie) and sub oil for butter. I cannot locate my recipe(thought it was on my desktop) but can post back with it. I think it is just a cup of oil, 1/2 cup of cocoa, 2 cups sugar and 2 cups flour, with 2 teaspoons baking powder. My only questionable thing is the baking powder and if there might be a bit of baking soda as well. But no eggs, so, I would use an egg recipe if you can. I know I would if I could. They give them that nice shine on top. becca

Becca,

Would love your egg free brownie recipe when you've got a chance. I miss my brownies! (Despite a certain recent thread on tainted brownies ) Thanks .

The milk free margarine I use is actually not great for baking. It tends to make the outside burn, no matter how little time I bake it. Becca, if I were to use the recipe that has eggs, but substitute oil for butter, do you have any idea how much oil equals how much butter? Mommyofmatt, what do you use for margarine in baking? (asking Mommyofmatt because her child is also milk allergic).

Just butting in!

We use Earth Balance buttery spread. It comes in tubs and in stick form. We use the stick form for baking all the time. Things usually turn out just fine.

Carefulmom,

I use Fleishman's dairy free margarine. I have no problem baking with it, it's mostly quick breads, pancakes, and waffles and some cookies that I make.

Their phone is 800/988-7808, made by ConAgra. Fleishmanns.com

I have never seen that. I`ll check at the store next time I go. I did try Earth Balance Buttery Spread on toast, but I found it had a weird consistency. Did not try it for baking.

With the right kind of margarine, this would be dairy-free
