Costco Cakes

My son is PA only, but we avoid may contain/contains tree nuts products since I am concerned about cross contamination.

The one product that I have allowed my son to eat is Costco bakery cakes, since I was told by the manager that they do not use nuts in the cakes, that they are on dedicated lines and that they are familiar with allergy and the PA question.

However, the last ingrediant on the label states almonds. When I brought this to his attention, he stated that this was in error, that it was almond extract and that they would correct this.

This was over 2 months ago. Does anyone else eat Costco cakes, are they in your comfort zone or not, and what responses have you received from your local Costco regarding this matter. I emailed them via the website, and have not heard anything back.

We had the same comfort zone, we allowed only costco cakes after talking with the head baker about it. Then one day last summer my friend ordered a cake and went to pick it up, there were bee's with almond for their wings on it. We no longer allow any bakey cakes, or any other bakey goods for that matter. It's a real bummer Donna

Thanks for the responses. I will have to talk to the head baker again and find out what is going on here.

I have never purchased any other bakery items from them, outside of the cakes, but clearly from my post, they are slipping outside of my comfort zone these days.

Years ago FAAN (at least I think it was FAAN) cautioned against "warehouse club" baked goods due to inconsistency in labeling. Frankly, I never even considered them.

Bummer, I know - before PA entered our lives I had one and it was delicious!
