Is coffee safe? My allergist said to stay away from all legumes including beans, peas (which my son is very allergic to.) He took a sip of coffee (black) for the first time, and his eyes were swollen, and he has been sneezing for days and days after. Could it be coffee?

Hi guys,
I love my hazelnut/vanilla gourmet flavoured coffee (dh hates it but he is only around on Sun morning to drink it)
It's made by Zavida in Canada and in Bold letters says "Does not contain hazelnuts" and on back (Does not contain any nut products)
I called 1-800-667-0192 and talked to Mary
Jane to confirm they don't use any nuts to
flavour there coffee's.
P.S....forgot to add I bought it at Costco, (where else)
www.zavida.com is their web-site
My son grinds the coffee beans for me.
(I buy their gift packs at Christmas time and LOVE all the flavours) This coffee really is great...and no, I don't work for this company or know anybody that works for this company.

I didn't know that some brands may contain hazelnuts! That is probably why I can't drink it. I will find out tomorrow by calling all the companies. Thankyou!

I have re-raised this out of curiosity - for those adults out there with a PA, do you drink coffee? I do not have PA (my son does) and I drink coffee daily - and only drink the flavoured decafs or lattes. I do stay away from the nut flavours however, but we can never really be safe when you are buying coffee out of the home at places like Starbucks or Second Cup...
I have been thinking a lot about my PA son growing up and doing the stuff that adults do. I was at a client site the other day and all I could smell was peanut butter - this woman has a peanut butter toast every morning in the office. It got me thinking about how you adults handle the whole PA thing at work.

Coffee always gives me a bad stomach ache with cramping. This started in my 20's which is when I discovered my PA allergy.
Anyway, I never thought about a connection to PA. I'll get tested the next time I get a RAST.
I do not drink coffee.

I have been wondering about coffee lately too. There are many brands that produce hazelnut varieties. I imagine that there would be some cross contamination issues.
