I'm not sure if I spelled the brand name correctly since I don't use it. I had called them a couple of years ago ,and although they wouldn't tell me if any product contains peanut, they did advise me not to use any of their spaghetti products. Has anyone else contacted them recently?

Hi Mary Catherine,

It is so interesting that you bring up the Chef BoyRDee Ravioli issue here. My son's one and only anyphylactic reaction came after having a PB cookie at the grocery store. However, he had the ravioli an hour before and this was the first time he had ever had the ravioli also, .Needless to say, he has never had the ravioli again either, although the allergist thought it was the pb cookie that set him off. The allergist also added that I might be wise not to feed him the ravioli again either. Hope this helps some of you.

My son eats the Beef Ravioli & the Spaghetti and Meatballs and has never had a problem. I read the ingredients and it didn't mention peanuts. Did I overlook something?

I don't know if you overlooked something. I haven't read a can for two years. I never saw peanut listed then, either. But I know it can be used to thicken sauces, so I called and asked. I just know that this was another company who (at that time) would not give me a direct answer as to whether or not peanut was an ingredient in any of their sphaghetti products. All they would say was that they advise me not to use any of their products in our home.

I haven't called them yet but their label for the ravioli does have hydrolyzed veg protein but it is declared as soy flour & caramel coloring. This should be safe for peanut allergy. We eat this a lot (one of my own silly addictions) and my daughter loves it & hasn't had a problem. Will hold off on feeding it to her until I call.
Thanks for the tip!

I know these are old posts but I still ponder the idea of Chef Boyardee being a problem to the peanut allergic.

I could not find an 800 number on the can but it did advise their website at www.chefboy.com but it did not have a place that I could find to e-mail them questions.

Do any of you know their phone number? I am very interested in what they have to say about their product...and again, my son has eaten their mini-ravioli w/o incident.

I am just very curious!

Has any one had a recent bad expierence with Chef Boyardee canned foods?

Our daughter got a rash around her mouth and had some caughing problems after eating the Chef Boyardee ABC'S 123'S yesterday. That's all I have been able to trace it back to. The reaction was pretty significant.

The can does not give a phone number to contact the company, only an address. Anyone have a phone number for them?

Here's their number: 1-800-544-5680

While looking for that I found out that they are a conagra company. It was conagra that some people were upset with so maybe chef boyardee isn't safe after all. My kids ate it a long time ago with no reaction, but they haven't had it for ages. I eat it sometimes, but if it isn't safe I'm going to quit. Please let us know what you find out. I'll try to call too, if I can remember to.

Gale

ConAgra won't label anything "may contain" so it's possible that the raviolis share a line with peanuts and/or tree nuts and you will never know. Spaghetti-o's are made by Campbell's and I was told they are made on a dedicated nut free line so that's what I buy for my son. Also, Campbells told me they will label "may contain".

Heather: I am just curious if you are still using Spaghetti-o's.

Do you use Campbell's Soups?

They have a few new products/flavors: Tomato Soup with "goldfish" shaped noodles/pasta, chicken noodle soup with "goldfish" shaped pasta, and dinosaur shapes too... I saw this advertised and plan to contact them before I go searching for this in the stores.

My 2 y/o had an allergic reaction to Chef's ravioli. She needed a nebulizer treatment, and had hives. It took 6 weeks to get proprietary information from them to do complete allergy testing on her. They weren't that cooperative. The only possible allergens for her were : MSG, and the hydrolyzed vegetable protein, which comes from another facility. So, the nut contamination issue is a problem with this product. I have little confidence in this company....

Does anyone know if Conagra owing Chef-Boy-ardee is simply American or does it go into the Canadian market as well? I'm not even clear what canned raviolis and alphagettis my children eat. I think they're Heinz but somewhere in my head, especially for the specialty raviolis, I'm SURE that I have seen Chef-Boy-ardee on the can (the face I mean).

We have never had any difficulties with the products and the kids have always eaten them.
However, I do know that I stopped buying the Orville Redenbacher popcorn I had always purchased and our family had never had a problem with once I saw it was a Conagra owned company after the many concerns raised on this board re Conagra.

I also know that I don't have any of the raviolis to check on right now in the cupboard, but I am fairly clear they're Chef Boyardee, but again Canadian. I'll have to check for Conagra labeling next time I go shopping.

Interesting that this topic was put up today. Since yesterday and today. I have been eaten the Chef Boy-ar-dee Spagetti in the large microwavable can. I severely PA. And I haven't had any reactions to it. I have to say that (and this is a bad thing). I don't always check the labels on items, if I've eaten it in the past. I guess I get lax, and its only when I have a reaction or end up in the ER, that I become more deligent about checking. But, nevertheless like everyone else has said already, be careful. BE SAFE

I have eaten Chef Boy-ar-Dee canned pasta all my life and never had a problem (although it was mainly when I was younger.. these days I usually cook my own pasta). But I did have some Chef Boy-ar-dee ravioli two weeks ago.. never had problems. I have also eaten the Heinz canned pasta too.

(note: this is Canada specific)

Here it is. I knew I remember calling Campbells and them telling Spagettio's were safe. Maybe they've changed the recipe since then and added peanut oil?
