I'm sure we all check OUR food ingredients on all items we eat, however have you checked for the ingredients in the bird seed???
One packet I was about to purchase or our weiro/cockatiel contained PEANUTS!!!
Keep your eyes open at ALL times...

3 year old - allergy to shellfish
6 year old - allergy to peanut, pistachio, cashew, tree nuts, shellfish, sesame seed, poppy seed, coconut, mandarine, dog/cat hair...

NO-- and you'll need to be careful of Hermit Crab food as well.
Another nasty surprise-- [i]egg[/i] in cage bird seed mixtures. DD is allergic enough that the best we've been able to do is purchasing Geisler Budgie/parakeet diet which is egg-free.... but I have NO DOUBT that it is "may contain" for pn. (Our choices were evidently "[i]does contain[/i] egg" or "may contain pn")
Anyway-- yes, huge problem. Lucky us, we have budgies that don't think fresh fruit is 'real' food. [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/rolleyes.gif[/img]

Watch for dog treats also. My son had a skin reaction after feeding our dog a Vitabone dog biskit. Some are flavored peanut butter but they all contain peanut butter. They used to say "peanut meal" now they say "peanut butter".

We've had pet rodents and some aquatic critters since Jason was a preschooler. I've always checked the rodent food (for hamsters we used Nutriphase, and for mice and rats we use Reggie Rat and Mazuri).
The one that really surprised me is shellfish in fish and turtle foods.
