ALLERGY ALERT - UNDECLARED PEANUT PROTEIN IN
ANMOL BRAND TIL LADDU AND CHIKKI TIL
OTTAWA, March 26, 2003 - The public warning issued on March 25, 2003
has been expanded to include additional product information. The Canadian
Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning consumers with allergies to
peanut protein not to consume Anmol brand Til Laddu (Sesame Laddu) and
Chikki Til (Sesame Candy). These products may contain peanut protein that
is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to individuals with
allergies to peanut protein.
The following products are affected by this alert:
1. Anmol brand Chikki Til (Sesame Candy), is shaped as a bar and
sold in 100 g packages.
2. Anmol brand Til Laddu (Sesame Laddu), is shaped as a ball and
sold in 200 g packages.
All codes are affected by this alert.
These are products of India exported by Tulaja Exports, Bombay, India.
These products have been distributed in Toronto area. These products are
being recalled by the Canadian distributors.
Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening
reaction in persons with allergies to peanut protein. There have been no
reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
