ALLERGY ALERT - UNDECLARED PEANUT PROTEIN IN
SNACK BARS MADE BY SUNFRESH ORGANICS
OTTAWA, November 2, 2001 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency
(CFIA) is advising consumers with allergies to peanut protein not to consume
Sunfresh Organics' snack bars described below. These products may
contain peanut protein that is not declared on the label. This alert is of
concern only to those individuals who have allergies to peanut protein.
All products, which do not clearly mention the presence of peanuts and bear
a company name "Sunfresh Organics" with a telephone number (905) 820-
3730, are affected by this alert. The affected varieties include but are not
limited to the following:
1. Almond Mango, 47g
2. Almond Berry, 57g
3. Apricot & Almond, 57g
4. Carob Cranberry, 45g
5. Carob Country Crunch, 50g
6. Carob Rocky Choc, 45g
7. Carob fruit & Nut, 45g
8. Cashew Crisp, 57 g
9. Country Crunch, 57g
10. Fruit & Nut, 57g
11. Nature's Bar, No weight
The manufacturer, Sunfresh Organics located in Mississauga, Ontario is
voluntarily recalling the affected products. These products have been
distributed in Ontario and Nova Scotia. The CFIA is monitoring the
effectiveness of the recall.
The consumption of these products may cause serious or life-threatening
reactions in persons with allergies to peanut protein. There have been no
reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.
