I decided to make some candied orange peel to bring to Thanksgiving dinner. So I bought $10 worth of oranges (this is only 8 organic oranges) and peeled away and now I realized I don't have any good dark chocolate in the house and don't have time to mail order from somewhere safe.
We have had some stomach upset from Hershey's dark chocolate. Does anyone have any good experiences with any other gourmet bars found at the supermarket? I thought that Ghirardelli was not safe. There are some European chocolate bars at our local store but my understanding is that the EU labeling doesn't show trace amounts or x-contamination.
Any suggestions for a rich dark chocolate would be welcome.
Thanks,
Edinview
We use Sharfenberger from San Fran. It's about $10 for a 9 oz bar so it's a VERY gourmet choice, but we've had no trouble with it either for nuts or milk contamination.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will go and see what the local stores have in stock and call the companies. Here I was thinking that my Thanksgiving grocery shopping was nearly complete!

There's a company called Guittard that you can find in Costplus World Markets, and possibly Wild Oats or Whole Foods or Sunflower Farmers Market or a gourmet food store like AJs.
They have a completely spectacular bittersweet chips. YUM! (can be used in place of 'dark' chocolate...it's actually better and will pair well with oranges.)
Some Ghiradelli chips are safe, they label for same facility/machine. Just check the label. I've gotten their 60% cacoa chips recently. Here is their updated allergen info from their website:
