Hi! I have a PA little boy who will be turning 3 this week (RAST 5). Due to his allergy, I will be baking all items at his party. I really wanted to decorate his cake and thought it would be easier to use already make icing. I know there have been some questions about Wilton baking products in the past, however, my Harris Teeter carries a brand called Cake Mate. They are in tubes in different colors. I'm going to call tomorrow, but wondered if anyone has ever used these products before. Thank you so much for your responses!!

We've been using cake mate with no problems. BUT their ice cream toppings are not safe yet they have no warning.

Hi KCMAC,
How was the cake and the party? And did you get a satisfactory response from the company?

Hi everyone. Thank you so much for your responses. Yes I did call CAKE MATE and they said that there were no nuts in the icing and there was no chance of cross contamination. However, I did not ask about their other toppings. So thank you for the warning on those. And thank you for asking about the party. My son had a great time and it was so nice not to have to be looking at every piece of food on the table.

I called Cake Mate on 10/22 & spoke with Wilma (800-456-9573). I was inquiring about all the Halloween sprinkles. She told me theat everything they make is made in a peanut/tree nut free facility as of 2001. The only thing you may find with nuts in it is an OLD jar of praline crunch. They stopped making it in 2001. So here's a list of safe items they make:

Betty Crocker icing products
PAAS Easter egg dec. products
Candy Cake Decorations
Decorating Gel
Decorating Icing
Decors (sprinkles, sugars, sequins, etc.)
Easy Flow Icing
Edible Images
Gel Food Colors
All Parlor Ice Cream Toppings
Cake Spray

Of course, it would be great if someone else could call & verify this information.

I also called about the Genuardi's store brand sprinkles (925-736-0395) and was told they are made in a p/tn free facility.

I called the number on the Cake Mate tube which is imported to Canada by McCormick Canada today Oct. 19/12 and was told there are no peanuts in the product but there were peanuts in other products they manufacture in the same facility. I was told that they were not run on the same line and that workers did not work in both areas. Not sure if that is enough to say its safe to use, I am new to all this.
