There was a supplement in yesterday's Sunday Globe and in that supplement was an article about food allergies. Did anyone else read it? It was not the most informative article I've ever read. In fact, I put it in the recycle bin this morning and not in my file of articles. What's up with the author saying "a cure is unlikely" - hello, ever hear of Dynex?! To say a cure is unlikely is not accurate at all. No mention at all of the treatment Tanox is working on.

Darn, I am out of town and had our paper stopped so I guess I won't be able to get a look at this. Did you consider writing a letter to the editor? I'm going to look online and see if I can find the article... thanks for the heads-up.

Yes Heather, I read that article too. I thought it was pretty uniformed and rather offensive.

As I recall (and I basically skimmed the article b/c it was so useless to me) the first 2 or 3 paragraphs basically said, 'you may THINK your child has a food allergy, but because it is relatively rare, we're sure that they don't.' Or words to that effect. They also never mentioned cross-contamination issues in prepackaged foods, bakeries, etc.

*tsk* There's nothing scarier than an uninformed journalist making proclamations to the world that will be taken as fact, even if they're WRONG!

I don't blame you for being disgusted with the article. Heather, did you mention in another thread that you might follow up on this with a letter?

PattyR sent a great letter to her local paper after a columnist made light of PA - he said peanut bans were extreme and unnecessary safety measures, and that he wished he was allergic to brussel sprouts so they could be banned.

Her letter (and letters from other PA parents) to him prompted him to print an apology and a promise to become more informed about PA before making snap judgements and observations.

Patty's letter is under a thread on the Main Discussion Board called "sharing emails" - she said anyone is welcome to copy it and use it, if they want. The original thread on the actual column is under this Media Forum, I believe the thread is called "columnist makes light of PA" and it was started about a month ago.

Good luck to you, if you decide to pursure this! Articles like this DO NOT make our job any easier, do they?!!
