Any recommendations for allergy friendly dining in the greater Boston area? We'll be in Needham, Dedham and Brookline (as well as the wharf area in Boston).
Thanks all!
Amy
HI Amy!
I live near Boston and you'll find many safe places to eat. I should say what I consider safe. We eat a lot at Bertucci's and they are great. Also, we really enjoy Vinny Testa's...another italian chain. We also always avoid dessert but have had much success w/ the entrees. We often eat at Joe's American Grill who have several selections that we consider to be safe and we have never had any issues w/ them. Pastryland n' more is mentioned on the peanut free business page...it is a nut free kosher bakery in Brookline that you should visit if you get the chance!! :-)
Thanks all!
We just got back - had a wonderful time! Turns out we were staying right next door to Vinny Testa's in Dedham, but never had the chance to go there. We did go to Joes, and had a wonderful meal. Very friendly, child-oriented service, but great for the grown-ups too. We even went to the Union Oyster House to fulfill Kevin's desire for clam chowder!
The only disappointment was that we couldn't get to Pastryland. They closed at 2:00 on Friday, and we couldn't get to Brookline that early (we actually visited friends a few blocks from there that evening). Ah well, next visit.
I hadn't been to Boston in about 20 years, so it was really fun for me. We have to get back when we don't have so many family obligations - there so much I'd like the kids to see.

Amy-
So glad that you had a great, safe trip!!
:-)
Hi Amy,
I live in the Boston area and I've never heard of Pastryland. What is it and where is it? If it has to do with desserts, I'd love to check it out!
Thanks,
Linda-jo
Pastryland is a kosher bakery in Brookline. Unfortunately, we couldn't get there before closing (they close early on Friday's, and must be closed all day Saturday), but our friends who live nearby say it is excellent. There is another post, perhaps under Peanut-free businesses about it.
Now that my BIL is in Needham, I expect we'll be going up there once or twice a year. Next time, you can be *sure* we will get there!

I just did a quickie under 18 hour trip to Brookline last night, and I finally got to Pastryland. Their selection was limited, but I brought home a big box of Rugelach and bowties. DS was very, very happy!
BTW, they said their baked goods are Pareve too, which means (mostly) dairy-free as well.

Bertucci's, a local upscale italian restaurant chain, is virtually nut-free. Following a serious incident (may have even been a death) a few years ago from their pesto sauce (which used to contain walnuts), they elminated all nuts from their foods (even their pesto is free of pinenuts and other nuts), with the exception of one or two dessert items. But, as always, I would double-check with them. I'm sure there will be a Bertucci's somewhere near where you will be staying. There is a thread regarding Bertucci's under "Restaurants".
