I am reading the book "Food Allergy for Dummies" the author does not think that there is any link between behavior and food allergies. Our allergist thinks that there is. I seem to notice that when my son has an eczema breakout that he is more emotional and harder to control. What does everyone else think?

My 2yr old dd was diagnosed with peanut/wheat/egg allergies in Dec. 07 and we have been diligent with what she eats. She has never really eaten any peanut things, but not long ago she found some chex mix in the van and started munching. I looked on the package and it mentioned that it contained peanuts. Nervously I watched her for any reaction...the only change in her was that she was so cranky. I have never seen her that cranky - even when she doesn't get a nap. You couldn't look at her without her screaming and crying.
I gave her some benedryl and after a bit the crankiness went away.
I have a friend who has a wheat allergy as an adult and I asked her if it changed her mood...she said yes it can. I asked her if it was because she had other symptoms that made her not feel good which would cause crankiness. She said no, its kind of an uncontrollable crankiness.
I hope that helps some.
Well, yes, when you feel badly physically you might act worse. When my seasonal allergies act up I have a very bad temper and have to watch myself. Luckily now I am aware of this and don't let it out on others but in my childhood I would yell a lot during allergy season because I was so sensitive.
I do not think that behavior alone = food allergy. There would be other signs.
I think that what makes my son moody is his eczema, which is brought on by his allergies, not necessarily food allergy. I was not saying that the only reason my son acts the way that he does is due to his food allergies, he's 3 so of course there are other factors but all I was asking is if others notice that their children seem to act out more if they show any signs of allergies.

My brother was allergic to milk and wheat when he was younger and he did eventually outgrow after puberty but man o man we could tell when he ate milk/wheat as he was down right MEAN! He would be HORRIBLE. I personally DO think there are behavior components to allergies. JMO!
