Barilla Pasta Safe for Peanuts and Egg Allergies

I know some of you have had a hard time getting a straight answer from Barilla about their pastas. So, I wrote them and told them that I wanted the "straight". Here is their answer...this is concerning the pasta made here in the United States.

This letter is to express our thanks for your interest and support. Barilla is the best selling pasta company worldwide, and we take pride in our product, right down to every last package. For over 120 years, generations of Barilla have maintained the family tradition of producing the finest pasta and sauces in the world.

Barilla's 100% Select Durum Wheat Semolina Pasta does not contain any egg or peanut products. However, be aware that we do make an egg pasta as well. The egg pasta clearly lists eggs as an ingredient on the ingredient list. Our egg pasta and our 100% Select Durum Wheat Semolina Pasta are made on separate lines.

Also be aware that they make a shelf-stable tortellini that contains peanut oil.

I do not trust Barilla at all!!! I got the same "straight" answer a few months ago only to find out months later that they make a tortellini with peanut oil! When I called them about this I got a VERY rude and nasty voice mail from deena(or somthing like that) saying that "well, that is the only one" DUH, how many products does she thinks it takes to cross-contaminate something. I know some people here have been told that product is made on a seperate line, but I don't care, they were rude and uncaring and I will not buy them ever again!!( just sharing my experience [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img] )

I had read your post before I e-mailed them and did bring to their attention that they had been rude in the past to other peanut allergy sufferers.

Thanks for doing that! [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img] I hope they realized this and as this allergy grows, the PA population are not ones they want to be ticking off!!
I am glad though that you got a better answer than I did and had better luck!

San Gorgio is safe. I called them and they were very allergy aware and very helpful. No chance of cross-contamination with peanuts/tree nuts at all. We use it often with no problems. [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img]

Creamette is safe too, as are all the brands made by New World Pasta. Only thing is we must be spoiled and picky because we don't like anything but barilla.
