Documentation needed!

Below is part of one of many requests for documentation we receive.

Your help is needed to help us reach our goals and to aid others such as this student on their work on this issue.

I want to use this opportunity to request your assistance in putting together all the information we can locate regarding reactions on airlines (peanut allergy related) which can be found (worldwide). We are looking for any documentation which you may have personally, or which you can help to locate (on the web, in the media etc.) regarding reactions on airlines.

Please send your information (and what you locate) by email to: Airlines@PeanutAllergy.Com
or you can fax, send regular mail, or phone. Click here for our contact info page

To Whom it May Concern:

My name is *** and I am (a) student at the University of ***. I am currently taking a class about safety management. For our final project, some of my classmates and I have been assigned the topic of creating a "peanut policy" for airlines in response to the FAA's possible ban.

We have been researching extensively, but one thing that we have (not) been able to find is documentation for actual cases of allergic reactions
on a flight. ...
I would like to request even just a letter,
doctor's note, anything for a few cases to help us support our policy.
If you could accomodate me, or send me names of people to contact, I would
be very appreciative. In order to site a specific case, we must be able
to officially refer to it. If you can help me, I will be more than
willing to send you our final report, it may help your cause, as well.

Thank you for your time,

***

We flew last week and my daughter did react to peanuts on board. Peanuts were served to 3/4 of the passengers on our flight before we realized and stopped them. (We had been assured by the gate agent that the flight would be peanut free) The last row served was three rows ahead of my daughter. The other passengers had already opened their peanuts. Within 10 minutes my daughter was sneezing, coughing, complained of her eyes burning, and had an itchy rash all over her body. We had never seen her experience a reaction to airborne particles before this event. We believe the concentraion of peanut particles in the air and the manner in which air is recirculated on an airplane were responsible. She had been treated prior to boarding with an inhaled steroid(Flovent), an inhaled bronchodialator(Serevent), a leukotrienne (Singulair), and an antihistamine (Zyrtec). These are her usual pm asthma control medications. She was treated on board with another antihistamine (Benadryl). This experience was reported on a comment card to Express Air, NW Airlines Airlink. We have not yet received their response.

Chris,

Kevin had a reaction about 5 years ago on US Air. I have no "official" documentation; just a copy of a letter that I sent them about it. Will this help? If it will, please let me know and I will be glad to forward the info.
