The other night when shopping at Trader Joe's, my husband purchased a bag of frozen pasta with a pesto sauce to enjoy at work (I have tree nut and peanut allergies). As I was reading the packaging, the 2nd ingredient was walnuts. BUT the only allergy warning on the package said, "Made in a facility that also processes peanuts, tree nuts, soy, etc." I was shocked that it didn't say CONTAINS NUTS anywhere. Are they not required to write that?
I know some people with milder allergies who will risk things that say "may contain traces..." It just shocks me that it wasn't declared...
I think you should contact the manufacturer with a letter (for documentation) with a copy to your Senator (federal).
They are required to specifically identify the top eight allergens including tree nuts. The label is confusing and should be rewritten.
Pesto sauce generally contains nuts.

They aren't required to do that. But you would think that if they take the time to add a 'may contain' statement they would put the 'contains' also.
