We just had an annoying experience with Alaska flying from Oakland to Seattle. We called a week in advance and requested a peanut free flight as we have done many times in the past. We were told that Alaska now provides a peanut free buffer zone, so we asked for the buffer zone. The service rep said to remind the people at the check in counter. We reminded the man at the counter when we checked in. He said, it was already flagged and anyway, "we don't serve peanuts." Oh, good we said. But nevertheless, I reminded the gate agent as well when we went to request preboarding. Well, she said, there would be an announcement asking people not to consume peanuts in our row, and the row in front and behind us. She wrote down which rows were affected on a clipboard and circled it. She said she would give the info to the flight attendants. We thanked her. So far so good, right?

Then we reach cruising altitude. Time for snacks. The flight attendants announce that they will be serving peanuts. There is no announcement about the buffer zone. We were not offered peanuts, but the people sitting in front of us were given, and proceeded to eat, EXTRA PEANUTS!

Fortunately, my daughter had no reaction, she sneezed a little when the people in front of us opened their packets, but I have no proof it was from the peanuts.

I guess I should have talked to the flight attendants personally when we boarded...

OMG!!!
I am sorry I do not have a lot of experience with airlines but hopefully someone here will point you in the right direction to file a complaint! They told you they were not serving peanuts on that flight, at least you would have been able to make the decision whether or not to board that flight if you knew! They put your child in a dangerous sitiuation that you had NO WAY OUT OF!!!! I hope you persue this further and thank god your daughter is all right!!
Best of luck to you!!

Since the agent at the counter said it was already "flagged" you should have received the buffer zone. MaAybe you can get a refund on the tickets.

Alaska Air peanut policy

Peanut Allergy

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air acknowledge customer concerns regarding peanut allergies. For this reason we do not want to create false expectations of the aircraft environment. We are unable to guarantee a peanut or allergen-free flight, nor can we prevent other customers from bringing peanuts or products containing peanuts onboard our flights. However, we will make every effort to not serve peanuts in the entire row you are seated in, the seats one row directly in front and behind you, creating a "peanut buffer zone."

In order to receive this service we need the following assistance from you:

Once you have confirmed your reservation, contact Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air Reservations and advise you are requesting a "peanut buffer zone" for a traveler with a peanut allergy.

At the departure gate for each flight, advise the agent you have requested a "peanut buffer zone".

As you board the aircraft, advise the Flight Attendant you have requested a "peanut buffer zone".

If, for any reason, we are unable to provide a "peanut buffer zone" for your specific flight, Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air will allow you and your party to change or refund your ticket (s) without a change fee.

Note: Alaska Airlines/Horizon meals and snacks may contain peanut-related ingredients. We encourage customers who are allergic to peanuts to bring along their own food items for travel.

Boy, they seem to enjoy making their customers jump through a lot of hoops, don't they? What an annoying policy they have.

Ok. I think I will call them, and perhaps make a written complaint.
