I am working up a design for my next tattoo and I was wondering if Allergies and/or Food Allergies have an Awareness Color. Like the Pink for Breast Cancer.

Thanks!!

FAAN had "Live Stong"-type bracelets made up in teal.

Doesn't it just figure that after looking forever and finally having the idea to post here, I'd finally find it? Well, one anyway. http://www.thankscompany.com/pages-volunteer/pins-awareness.html has a gray one listed for Children with Allergies and Asthma. But it seems every site has different colors for different causes. That kind of leaves me unsure what I want to do here. I like the idea of using the teal myself, but if Gray is the one people may begin to recognize, I'd think I should use it.

that site, allergykids.com uses bright green as their color as well...so I don't think one specific color has been chosen...we need one!!!

edit to add, I have used this green alot, I've ordered these stickers to put on his safe snacks at school. And his first medical bracelet, I bought a braided leather band(with the medical emblem in metal) of this same bright green, it was VERY eye catching though.

Thanks, Mommyof4. This really helps! Where did you find it? There are a couple of other colors I found that I was hoping to be able to check out.

as aside, maybe we should come up with our own bracelets.. any interest? i'd be happy to research the costs...

something to wear that folks might ask about, gives us another opportunity to educate..

does FAAN still do the bracelets? i'm just doing stream of consciousness thinking now.. but how great would it be to have a celebrity figure w/FA in the family to wear it and give greater profile...

e.g., the actor on Scrubs who plays dr. cox always wears one, and he often gets asked in his fan mail what the bracelet means... he has a kid w/development disabilities...

Teal is usually the ribbon color for ovarian cancer.

Well upon further research online - it seems that gray is for asthma & allergies (in general?); however, teal is specific to food allergies. I believe FAAN started the teal color specific to food allergy awareness.

In my research I found that the same color can be for several different things. For example: Gray = brain cancer, diabetes, allergies & asthma.

Baiscally whatever organization, person or group of people supports a medical condition, our troops, or whatever cause can pick a color to use to raise awareness, for charities, etc... Then I think from there it depends on the general public as to how familiar people become to recognize that color with that cause. Example: pink = breast cancer.

So I guess it's up to all of us dealing with Food Allergies to decide how we want the world to know our cause. Whether it is gray for allergies in general, FAAN teal or whatever....

the grey seems to dreary, really. I would go for a teal, or even the bright green http://allergykids.com/ is trying to make universal(she hasn't had much luck, at least I don't see it around here and she lives in Boulder, just a few miles west of me). I still support her though.

I like that green too. Here is a site that was mentioned in a People Magazine article that has all causes and associated colors:
