I just returned from a trip to Florida with my 2 kids. We flew AirTran b/c of positive posts on this site. I must say, we were sorely disappointed!
I suppose each flight is unique, since each flight crew is different, but we had an insensitive crew on both trips last week.
At the airport, I made sure to get there early to speak with a rep. about pre-boarding to wipe off my son's seat. (I phoned the airline the day before the trip and THEY suggested I do this). I was stared at blankly (in Boston AND Orlando, mind you) and just assumed that meant, "Yes, ma'am, you can." So, when it came time to board the plane, there was NO announcement for pre-boarding and we were stuck frantically wiping down his seat while other passengers got upset b/c the kids had to stand in the aisle while I wiped. (again, same situation, both flights)
Then, on our flight home from Orlando, as I explained the allergy situation to the stewardess, she said, "Yeah. Well, you should keep his Epipen handy b/c someone on the last flight was eating nuts and I don't remember which seat they were in. Good luck." They never made an announcement about his allergy (as other airlines we have flown did) nor did they seem AT ALL concerned.
I am glad some of you had good experiences with AirTran, unfortunately I did not. I would never fly with them again.
Just an FYI.
Son Severely allergic to Peanuts/Tree Nuts
Daughter NKA, thank goodness!
We flew air tran last month for the first time. We did not have a problem with them serving nuts or having a reaction. However, customer service was very poor on both flights.

hi, ivycosmo,
sorry to hear of your bad experience with airtran! what jerks!! but you're right ... unfortunately each flight is different, with, of course, different crew, so you never know what you are going to get. the only reason i would fly any airline consistently is if they are peanut free (which airtran is), as we are only dealing with PA. i figure that it is just one less thing to worry about. otherwise, i think one airline is probably just as good (or bad) as the other, for the reasons stated above.
hope you had a nice time anyway, and i'm assuming you had a safe trip, so that's good. i'm sure the plane trip was pretty frustrating nonetheless!
