Airborne Allergy to Nuts

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering...how many out there are airborne allergy suffers?

Our allergist said the other day that for the most part, people allergic to nuts should avoid all contact to them - that usually they will react to them just being in the same room. I haven't encountered that during my speaking with and writing different people. I think that the levels of sensitivity differ.

Who out there has an airborne allergy to nuts?

Our Daughter is "airborne" Allergic to peanuts. She reacts when passing by or sitting near peanuts,ie.. Grocery stores, ball parks.. She once had a severe reaction from being in her classroom while peanutbutter was being used, even though she never touched(or tasted, thank God) it.

Our 4 yr old also has an airborn allergy to nuts. swelling around the eyes and extremities and hives. This was from sitting next to a child eating a peanutbutter sandwhich.

I am sensitive to airborne peanut - rather embarrassing when the person next to you at a workshop comes back from coffee with peanuts on her breath and you have to move across the room. So far, I can survive the grocery store, but they also don't seem to have massive displays of bags of nuts, and I stay out of the chips and snax aisle.

My son has had reactions to airborn particles. Hives, swelling around the eyes, swelling face, and crying (when he was an infant, irritable at an older age)

I am very sensative to airborn peanut. On airplanes where peanuts are served I have had asthma symptoms, runny nose and itchy eyes. Not on every flight, but on some. I think it makes a difference how clean their air filtration systems are.

Also, I react if I am in a room where peanut butter is being served or eaten, or if I am with someone at a restaurant where my companion is eating something containing peanut, such as a sauce. My reaction may be nausia,or asthma symptoms.

I did not used to react so strongly, but over the years, I have become more sensative to the allergen.

Our son turns red in the face and gets irritable when he smells peanuts and can't move away easily. We had tickets at Halloween for Lion King on Broadway in New York . Imagine our surprise when the child in the row in front of us starting eating peanut M&M's. Our son annouced in a very loud voice that he could smell peanuts. Obviously you can't switch seats and we weren't about to leave after paying close to $200.00 for tickets. Thank goodness when I told the mother about our son being allergic she had her child put the candy away and explained nicely to her child why he couldn't eat it then. Once the smell stops he slowly calms down and the redness goes away within a half an hour.
