Consumer Alert: State Agriculture Commissioner Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Peanuts
Brooklyn, NY - November 26, 2002 -- State Agriculture Commissioner Nathan L. Rudgers announced today that Advance Import, Inc., 290 North Henry Street, Brooklyn, New York 11222, is recalling "Sweetheart" brand toffee candy because it contains undeclared peanuts. People who have allergies run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The recalled "Sweetheart" brand toffee candy is packaged in 227 gram, plastic bags with code 2001 12 04. It is a product of China. The "Sweetheart" brand toffee candy was sold to food distributors in Flushing, Queens and Brooklyn, New York.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets food inspectors revealed that the product contained peanuts which were not declared on the label. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return it to the place of purchase.
