Traveling to Southeast Asia with a PA

I'll be traveling in South-East Asia for 2.5 months and I have a peanut allergy. I am anaphylactic, however I can be around peanuts and if the person beside me is eating peanuts, I will be fine so I am relatively lucky.

I was curious if anybody had any tips on how to travel around countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos with a peanut allergy that is a less drastic measure than sticking to fast food restaurants, as I would like to enjoy some of the local cuisine if possible and avoid KFC and McDonalds.

The only precaution I have come up with so far is to have a laminated card to show to food vendors that says 'If i eat peanuts I will die, Is there peanuts in this dish?" in the language of each country I plan to visit.

If anybody has any tips or relevant personal experiences than please let me know as any help would be appreciated,

Be careful - I've traveled to southeast asia with a peanut allergy - the card is great. But make sure they understand and don't be 'lazy' with the card. I had an issue in Malaysia where I thought they understood me (lazy - didn't have my card) and wound up in the hospital.
Oh yeah, and you'll want to call these guys ahead of time and buy some kind of plan - they'll make sure you get good healthcare just in case: http://www.internationalsos.com/en/
I don't know how much it costs (employer has the plan) but it was a life saver.
