Peanut-Free/Nut-Free Directory
Our directory is intended as a resource for people with peanut and nut allergies. It contains foods, helpful products, and much more.
We would like to compile an extensive list of 1-800 telephone numbers for food manufacturers (and any other manufacturer you feel is appropriate). Please check your pantry and post 1-800-phone number and name of company beside number. It will be helpful to many people as Chris will make this an accessible list to all. Thanks for your help!!!
Here are numbers for companies (their product or products are in my fridge or pantry right now and safe for my son - BUT not all products by these companies may be safe, so check each product individually:

Coco:
The Calgary Allergy Network has a list available on their website. Some of the ones you have here are repeated there, but some are new. I found it a really good starting point and you can maybe then expand on it.
The address is:
http://www.cadvision.com/allergy/manufacturer.html
By the way, it is impoprtant to say which numbers are for the States or Canada, since they are often different in each country!

Just thought I would bring this up again...
I have been working on a list that also includes web addresses along with the 800 #'s. The person who originally started this thread "Coco" mentioned that Chris is compiling a list that will be available to all, I would like to get a copy of this list please????...This is also my "safe" list...Hope this helps...

I think this would be an excellent tool for us to use when trying to contact companies.
Chris is there a list in the works? I am surprised that more people have not posted info on this thread. We are always contacting companies to doudle check on safe products. Back in November I posted my list which is posted above and includes phone #'s and web addresses... Thanks!
Hello, I just want to make three suggestions about 1-800 numbers. First, directory assistance for 1-800 numbers is free just like the calls so you can always dial 1-800-555-1212 and ask the operator for the number you are looking for. Second, your local public library probably offers telephone reference service and can locate the number for you. Your library probably has access to directories of brand names that link the brand to a company and to a 1-800 number. There are lots of directories available and some even concentrate on the food manufacturing, restaurant and fast food sectors. Third, many packages now have the 1-800 number written on them for easy and up-to-date access.
I think Chris and others should concentrate their energies in an area that is not well served by other publishers.
PeanutKate: I am aware of 800 directory assistance and use it often. I think you misunderstood what I am looking for. I just thought we could create a place on this website and have a board to post this info.
Many times people that post about their contact with a company, they are not including the contact info so that others may call to double check. I am also aware that most products have their contact info right on the package.
I don't know if you contact food companies often, but I do, and this info would be very helpful when provided by others posting on here.
To a certain extent, I agree with PeanutKate. It takes a lot of time and energy to compile these lists and to keep them updated. Besides, there are many phone lists that have already been compiled and are readily accessible. For example, FAAN publishes a manufacturers guide with phone #s and addresses. If a manufacturer is not listed in the guide, FAAN will look the number up for you. I have also found the Nutribase website to be extremely helpful.
The root of this problem lies in the fact that many manufacturers do not bother to list a phone # on their labels. One of the regulations proposed in the AG's petition to the FDA would require food manufacturers to include a toll-free telephone number on package labels and to have trained and knowledgeable customer service staff available to answer our questions. If this proposal were to be adopted by the FDA, it would be a tremendous help to food-allergic consumers. Again, I urge anyone who has experienced the frustration of trying to track down a manufacturer's phone # to share your experience with the FDA and your local Congressman and tell them that you support the AG's proposal.

SF,
I think this list of 1-800 numbers is great. It is also great that other people want to spend their time working on other issues for the PA.
I love having the numbers handy. It is nice to do a search in this topic and have the number now. Thanks for reminding us that this great list is available right here!
