Welcome back to our June series about food allergy friendly vacation ideas for the food allergic family. If you haven’t already visited it, be sure to read my previous post (Part 1) about vacationing in San Antonio, Texas with food allergies.
In my previous post, I discussed some of the best bets for things to see and do for families with food allergies. Now, I’d like to share a great place to stay…the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa (http://hillcountry.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/;jsessionid=53753F1C22E8F68F246F99FF1B235273.atg08-prd-atg3).
Now before you panic at the prices…hear me out. If you are diligent in researching special offers and vacation packages by surfing online and contacting a Hyatt Hotel representative, it is often just as affordable (if not cheaper) than staying in downtown San Antonio. We’ve always been able to stay for extremely reasonable rates which is amazing when you look at all the amenities this lavish hotel has to offer.
The Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa is THE place we stay when visiting San Antonio. The hotel is beautiful and clean and offers no-pet and no-smoking rooms to guests if requested. Even requests for a change in hotel bedding (for example if your child is allergic to down bedding) are accommodated. The hotel boasts several cafe’s, restaurants, and even pool side dining.
For each of the hotel’s restaurants/food service bars, I was able to speak with a member of the hotel staff and chef to identify what menu items would be safe for me and my son (I have celiac and my son has nut, peanut, sesame, and chickpea allergies). We are even able to eat poolside and have done so quite a bit much to the kids’ delight!
If you are still concerned about dining at the hotel, there is a McDonald’s right across the highway and a Rudy’s Barbeque right across the street (we are safely able to dine at those restaurants as well…Rudy’s is one of my hubby’s favorites). If you’re still uncomfortable with those options, the hotel will provide you a refrigerator and microwave in the room upon request. Just a few short miles away are several grocery stores and mainstream restaurants that you will also be able to select your food from.
Now that we’re done talking turkey so to speak…what else does this hotel have to offer? Actually, it’s more like what DOESN’T this hotel have to offer! While there be sure to visit the kids’ playground, lazy river for tubing, several outdoor pools, a volleyball court, tether ball, free outdoor movies on the lawn with popcorn, free s’mores (yes they will accommodate those with food allergies) every night at dusk, hammocks, hay rides, championship golf course, and The Wildflower Spa.
There is so much to see and do at the hotel itself…it becomes part of the vacation.
San Antonio, Texas is a great vacation that won’t break the bank and promises good, clean, food-allergy friendly fun for the whole family! It’s one of our favorite destinations and probably will be for years to come!
