The Safe Way To Pack Sunbutter For Your Child’s Lunch

About this time every year, I start trying to get inventive for school lunches.  (Thanks to Sugarcrafter, I already have a leg up on preparing for that part of back to school!  Check out her guest post on The Food Allergy Mom here.)

But as many of you parents out there already know, sometimes our kids just want a plain old peanut butter sandwich.  My son has peanut and nut food allergies, so peanut butter is out for us.  However, we do really enjoy Sunbutter!  It’s a great substitute for peanut butter that is nut, peanut, and gluten-free AND it tastes just like the real thing.

My son was in first grade last year and at the end of the year, we began packing a Sunbutter and jelly sandwich (although Sunbutter and banana is yummy, too) for field trips because it doesn’t spoil as quickly as cheese and mayonnaise.  I usually accompanied my son on those trips as homeroom mom, so if there was ever a question of if that sandwich had peanut butter in it, I was there to let them know it was Sunbutter and it was safe.

As the new school year approaches, I have no doubt my son will want to take Sunbutter sandwiches to school on occasion.  The problem is that I won’t always be there to assure those around him that the sandwich isn’t peanut butter but is actually Sunbutter.

Enter Sunbutter to the rescue!  Be sure to visit Sunbutter’s blog post by Janet Morse, Sunbutter’s school specialist.  She has some great tips on labeling Sunbutter sandwiches and about school lunches in general.

Thank you, Sunbutter, for understanding moms’ needs and making it possible to live a life with food allergies with a smile!
