Sonnie’s Allergy Results

After a long 7 month wait we finally arrived at Dr Pete Smith’s office, I was very nervous I have to say, but Sonnie didn’t have a care in the world.  This is the first time I have seen this allergist, he is supposed to be one of the best in Australia and I was more than happy with him.

I took Kane with me as Sonnie is a “big boy” like his brother when Kane is around and doesn’t fuss as much, and I am glad I did.  When we sat down Pete looked at Kane and said “you’ve got Allergic Rhinitis” “you breath through your mouth, you snore, you fidget in bed, get out of breath easily and are constantly wiping your nose” Kane looked stunned, especially as he wasn’t even sniffing and had just sat down in his chair, I knew Kane had this, but have always been told there isn’t a great deal you can do with it as there are so many different pollens, dust etc., in the air, but Pete gave Kane a nose spray and said this will clear it up and he should be a different boy in a couple of weeks, so I’ll let you all know!

Anyway, as for Sonnie, he looked at him and said “he hasn’t got a Nut Allergy” ok I thought, let’s hope he’s going to test his theory though! So off we went to have a skin prick test, Sonnie was very brave and didn’t even flinch when he saw they were going to prick his skin.  After a long 10 minutes I am very pleased to say Sonnie isn’t allergic to any nuts. Fantastic news for Sonnie, but not for Kane, I could see he looked a bit sad and I know he was thinking why me, which I guess is only natural, I asked if was pleased for Sonnie and he said yes he wouldn’t want him to have this, but I know deep down he felt sad as he was the only one with this allergy.

So what now, do I give Sonnie Nuts, do I trust the skin prick test, to be honest I’m not sure, whilst we were at the clinic Pete asked if I wanted him to give Sonnie some Peanut Butter just to show me that he wasn’t allergic, my stomach went in knots, I felt sick immediately at the thought of Sonnie having an anaphylactic shock, which deep down I know he wouldn’t, but I am still a little sceptical. I will let you all know if I do pluck up the courage though!
