Hand sanitizer (like Purell) does not remove peanut protein nor does dish soap alone. Soap and water, hand wipes and most other spray cleaners will remove peanut protein from hands and surfaces.
Warning labels like “may contains” or “processed in” are not required by law in the US on food packages. Some companies do add warning labels, but if you don't see one—don't assume there aren't allergens in the facility.
Up to 7% of foods tested with warning labels “may contain peanuts” etc. were found to have detectable amounts of peanut protein even though peanut was not a listed ingredient in the food item.
There is currently no cure for food allergies. There are several studies underway, however these treatments will not be right for all allergy suffers and it could be up to 5-10 years before any treatment is available to the general public.
Non food items like cleaners and body care products might contain peanut or tree nut oils, or shells. Be sure to read the label on those items as well. When in doubt, purchase something else.
The EpiPen takes 9 minutes to reach it's “peak” performance level. Most food allergy deaths are due to a delay in administering the EpiPen. Make sure you have a clear emergency action plan from your doctor as to when you should administer emergency medication.
